DEA-IUB Organizes winter cloth collection programme

At the end of January 2014 ‘The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at IUB – DEA IUB’ held a week long winter cloth collection program titled ‘A FRIEND IN NEED’ at the Independent University, Bangladesh with the aim to provide warm clothes to needy people. The club encouraged students of Independent University, Bangladesh to come forward and make contribution in terms of donation and warm clothes. The students were made aware of this program through banners and word of mouth. The collection program, even if it was of a short duration, resulted in a surprising volume of warm clothes and donation. After the end of the collection program, the club used the proceeds from donation to buy blankets which were to be distributed along with warm clothes. With around five hundred pieces of warm clothes and fifty five blankets the club started the distribution. The members of the club were divided into three teams, two of which targeted slums at Bashundhara Residential Area and Kuril 300 Feet Area respectively. The remaining team distributed at a village in Manikganj. Every member of the club worked with enthusiasm and the students were more than happy to make contribution and be a part of such humanitarian activity. Since Community Service is a part of the International Duke of Edinburgh’s Award itself, and DEA IUB being the only club facilitating the award at Independent University, Bangladesh, the club firmly wishes the continuation of such events in future as well. The club shares all their activities through the club’s fan page on Facebook. So if anyone is interested to find out about other activities the club has been doing till now they can log onto www.facebook.com/deaiub.
